Professional life
Kimmich started to play for VfB Stuttgart from 2007 to 2013 before moving to RB Leipzig for a fee of 450,000 pounds. During the 2015-16 season, Kimmich moved to Bayern Munich for €7 million. He made his first Bundesliga debut for Bayern against FC Augsburg where he came in as a late substitute. On 9 September, he scored his first goal for FC Bayern in a 2-0 Bundesliga, away win at FC Schalke 04 and later he scored his first two Champions League goals in a 5-0 home win against FC Rostov. On 12 August, Kimmich started the 2018–19 season by playing in the German Super Cup and also won the title as his side defeated Eintracht Frankfurt with a 5–0 victory. On 23 August 2020, Kimmich made an important assist for the winning goal against Paris Saint-Germain by Kingsley Coman in the final, to be his first Champions League title along with his teammate Serge Gnabry. On 27 October, Kimmich scored the winning goal in a 2–1 away victory over Lokomotiv Moscow in the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League.
On the international level, Kimmich made his debut for the German national team in May 2016 against Slovakia in an international friendly. He was included in the UEFA Euro 2016. Kimmich scored his first goal for the Die Mannschaft against Norway in the FIFA World Cup Qualification match in September 2016 in which Germany won the match 3-0. In the same year, Kimmich became the captain of Germany in the World Cup Qualifier against Azerbaijan. He played 23 matches continuously for Germany starting from June 2016 against Northern Ireland, breaking the record held by Franz Beckenbauer.
